FAQs

Q: Are there study guides for the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations and the Florida Educational Leadership Examination?
A: Yes. Test preparation guides are available from National Evaluation Systems. (For more information, call (413) 256-2893 or visit www.fl.nesinc.com.)

Q: What is the percentage of correct answers required to pass the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE) and the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE)?
A: See the FTCE/FELE Maximum Percentages of Correct Items Needed to Achieve a Minimum Passing Score chart at http://www.fldoe.org/asp/ftce/pdf/percentpass.pdf.

Q: After receiving my official score report, how much time do I have to request attendance at a score verification session?
A: Your request to view your exam at a score verification session must be received within 30 calendar days after the score report was mailed to you. You will be assigned to the next available session if the request is received in time for that session.

Q: How long is the score verification session? Do I have to stay the entire time?
A: Score verification sessions last two-and-a-half hours. You are not required to stay the entire time; but if you leave the session, you will NOT BE ALLOWED to re-enter. You may come late, but you will not be given extra time. No one will be admitted to a session after 11:45 a.m.

Q: Can I review all versions of the test I have taken?
A: No. Only one version of each test or subtest you have taken will be provided per session date. You will only see the version you requested.

Q: Can I review tests or subtests in more than one testing area if I took and did not pass more than one test?
A: Yes. You must list each test or subtest that you did NOT PASS and wish to review on your request form by the deadline.

Q: Would I be able to review and challenge a performance section of a test?
A: Be aware that performance sections, such as an essay, a recorded oral response, or a speech video, were rated holistically by at least two raters at standardized scoring sessions and will have no analytical marks or explanations accompanying them. If you wish to challenge your score on a performance section, an appeal form will be provided for that purpose for you to submit by the end of the session.

The Florida Department of Education uses a holistic scoring process that does not produce specific diagnostic results. However, the holistic scoring process is a very common essay scoring strategy and is applied across the nation.

The scoring of essays and performance components is conducted in a standardized session held for a particular examination and scored by at least two independent, qualified and trained users.
